Hi! I'm in my early thirties, and a writer (technical by day, not-yet-published fiction by night) Currently USan but looking to immigrate to Vancouver (Canada) within the year. I've got most of the legal stuff sorted out, at least as far as the first step ('permanent resident' / 'skilled worker') goes, and it'll be awhile before I can start pushing for 'citizen' status. And Canada's only barely a foreign country from here anyway, even the language is mostly the same.

So mostly I'm watching for other people's experiences, and seeing what I can translate into useful things I might not have even known I needed. Standard new-city stuff, finding people and a place to live, but also things like staying in contact with folks back home, all that good stuff.

Cheers!

Hellooooo my fellow expats! ^_^

There's not really much to say here right now, but I just figured it's always more welcoming to go to a new comm that isn't entirely empty! Who wants to join that?? lol.

So, a smidge of background about me; I'm a female, in my late 20s. I've been an expat for almost a year and a half now. Ex-US, current Belgian resident. I moved to be with my husband, whom I married shortly after crossing the ocean. Small affair, just us, in a destination wedding. At that point, I had only been abroad once before, when I came this way to spend a couple weeks with him a year prior.

Anyhow. Belgium is pretty easy as far as immigration goes, so I won't have all the answers for hard-to-get-to places, but I do know a handful of stuff, and am always happy to help try to answer questions! If nothing else, I will certainly try to help you track down the info you need. ^^ I also think I'll toss a few links in the sidebar for some other expat sources that may be helpful to members, one can never have too many resources, right? ~_^ If you know of any good sites helpful to expats, go ahead and send them my way, and I can include them also. And if you ever have any suggestions/questions/comments, I'm all ears! ^_^
